Running Program Training Technology: MapMyRun (app)

First Review: The MapMyRun (app) – The Ultimate Running Companion

Useful Running Technology

Aside from my running shoes, there’s not much at this point that I can really advocate (for or against) when it comes to jogging, but one thing that I can definitely express my opinion about is the “MapMyRun” app.  It’s a standout fitness app that a friend introduced me to back when I first started running (a whole year ago), that has truly elevated my running experience. I’ve found it very easy to use, and whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned runner, this app offers everything you need to plan, track, and improve your runs. Its user-friendly interface, accurate GPS tracking, and array of features and options make it a must-have for anyone serious about running (or at the very least someone interested in keeping accurate and in-depth tabs on their efforts). Hands down (or feet down) some of the best running training program technology available.

Technology to Track Your Performance and Inspire Your Running Program

One of the best things about MapMyRun is how motivating it is. Seeing your stats, progress, and personal records in real-time gives you a boost to keep pushing, and it also makes it easy to reference prior efforts to know what’s needed when striving for new “Personal Bests”. The app syncs seamlessly with wearables and other health platforms (although I haven’t used it for this, I’m told it’s easy to do), helping you utilize all the tech you have in your arsenal to stay on top of your fitness goals.

My Top 5 Features (all available in the free version):

  1. Accurate GPS Tracking – Records routes and distances with precision. Something that makes this feature really cool is that with the satellite overlay, you can “revisit” runs to see exactly where you went, what you might have run past, or possibly find something else that you want to check out the next time. Perhaps not intended as a design concept, I’ve used this feature on vacations as it’s great for documenting even the littlest things (memories) about routes through historical, spectacular, or just far-away places.
  2. Custom Route Planning – Create or discover running paths nearby, as well as plan new routes knowing which roads/streets connect through various neighborhoods without ever having to backtrack in real time (lol a newbie mistake I don’t make very often anymore and one that annoyingly really throws off an anticipated run distance).
  3. Workout Logging – Tracks all types of workouts/activities (not just running), although I basically use it to record my outdoor and treadmill runs (as well as an occasionally walk).
  4. Pace and Elevation Data – Accurate data collection allows you to monitor your performance/results closely, comparing not just distances and times, but also the differences and distinctions of the routes that have an effect on those results (i.e. the whole apples/oranges thing for me).
  5. Goal Setting – Set and track personalized fitness goals. The app has proven to be extremely useful for me, by simply and accurately collecting the data that’s instrumental in my performance analysis.  Without it, I’d be missing a critical component/aspect of my workout program, and I definitely would not be able to maintain the focus/mindset that I rely upon to keep myself committed.

Overall, MapMyRun makes every run more purposeful and fun. If you’re looking for something to help make your efforts more understandable and rewarding, this running training program technology fits the bill. Highly recommended!
